3 Second Movie Reviews: 1/15/2012

Welcome to Adventures in Poor Taste’s weekly movie review roundup. I’ll be posting a slathering of movie reviews each week to give folks a healthy helping of what’s good and not so good. New and old, the reviews cover anything from the pleasantly innocent Winnie The Pooh to disturbingly twisted Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom.

Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965)

3 Second Movie Reviews: 1/15/2012
If you study the mise en scene of the cleavage you’ll understand this is a film about hope.

Director Russ Meyers has famously said the movie title showcases everything a movie goer wants, fast cars (faster), sex (pussycat) and violence (kill, kill). I can’t agree more! It sure looks pretty too.

Grade: A

The Artist (December 2011)

It’s got a ton of whimsy, fantastic acting and a very enjoyable story. I was worried this neo-silent film would hit boring patches, but it mixes everything up very nicely playing with the genre in multiple ways.

Grade: A-

The Hangover Part 2 (May 2011)

It’s a repeat of the first one down to the characters reviewing the night at the end. It does keep you interested though as it’s a pretty well made movie. Not as funny by a long shot, but a decent way to pass the time then.

Grade: B-

This is a visual representation of The Hangover and The Hangover Part 2.

A Perfect Getaway (August 2009)

Exciting, interesting and the mystery is interesting enough that it’s not annoying. BUT, there is one scene that really lies to the audience and that’s not fair. Also the ending clearly had a producer calling the shots with all characters going into crazy mode and forgetting cops murdering people is illegal.

Grade: C+

If the deleted scenes from Thor say anything, it’s that Chris Hemsworth is typecast as a hick crack addict as seen here.

The Future (January 2011)

Miranda July makes a movie that’s filled with symbolism focused all around the ending of a relationship. I think. It’s as if she wrote a very complicated novel, then stripped out all the context. While confusing in its own right it gets a bit pretentious.

Grade: C

The Naked Kiss (October 1964)

A great pulp film from Samuel Fuller. You can tell Tarantino probably saw this one when he was younger. It has that badass chick feel to it. Plus it actually has a nice message about whores trying to stick it to the man.

Grade: A

Dogtooth (April 2010)

3 Second Movie Reviews: 1/15/2012
This caption from the film alludes to the sequel to be released in 2013, CatTooth: Man’s Best Friend 2 Revenge of the Pussy Machine.

This is easily one of the most original films of recent memory, and is a completely engaging experience. This is nothing more than a giant, heavy-handed metaphor about the perils of over-protecting your children. Be forewarned, it’s a disturbing picture, it’ll probably induce as many “WTF” looks as a donkey show. It maintains an artistic nature though and isn’t graphic for graphics sake.

Grade: A

Cell 211 (April 2011)

A highly entertaining prison-break drama. The production value is TV quality, but really it’s a soap opera anyway.

Grade: B+

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (August, 2010)

Super enjoyable flick even for the second viewing! Love the humor in this one, but really what sets it is the editing. Edgar Wright must plan each shot on the edits between them because his films (and his TV show Spaced!) have an energy most films would die to recreate.

Grade: A

The Price of Pleasure (2008)

Very short but interesting documentary. Its message could fit in a pamphlet, but it raises some great points on the problem with porn.

Grade: C

3 Second Movie Reviews: 1/15/2012
Sometimes the price requires making a choice from 2 desired options. Fatty bacon or lean bacon. What did you think the 2 options were?
