Where we don’t understand, are insulted by or would rather stab our eyes with acid pops than look at these covers for various reasons.

Dave: News flash: blowing a monster’s brains out is still a crime! When will monsters finally receive the same rights as you or I?
Brendan: Jesus, Dave. Next you’re going to be telling me I shouldn’t be slaughtering cows for my own guttural pleasure.
Skin Trade #2
Brendan: Well that looks… uncomfortable. Nothing like having your wolf-face ripped off to let you know someone means business.
Dave: Is it being ripped off? From what it looks like to me, this dude got into a horrible car accident and his face slid off. Also, that face doesn’t match very well with the dog face.
Owl #2
Brendan: Uh oh! Somebody let Alex into the neons again! Am I crazy, or is this the third (or fourth) “We swear this isn’t Batman” character to emerge within the last year? I mean, I understand original characters are hard to come by and all, but can’t we rip off one of the other thousand characters from the Big Two?
Dave: As I understand it, neon is used widely in clothing for outdoor use like running and bicycling, to ensure cars can see you. So what’s the deal with his chest? Does he want the bad guys to look at his man boobs or something?
Dave’s Honorable Mentions
The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #2
Dave: While the drill bit doesn’t look so menacing, the size of it does! The shock dashes coming from Spidey’s head help imbue him with nervousness which further adds to the drama of this cover.
Brendan: Those shock marks are a great little touch to this cover. I love the almost comical sizing of the giant… thing that has made its way into Spidey’s face.
Dark Tower: The Gunslinger – So Fell Lord Perth (2013) #1
Dave: There are a few things that help put that giant into scope, one of which is the mist that’s engulfing his legs and the other is the sun shining over his shoulder. He’s big enough to blot out the sun and it’s apparent our rock slinger is in for a fight. Epic stuff.
Brendan: Like Dave said, the perspective is perfectly captured by adding the mist to hide the true scale of our monster. I’m not convinced that the positioning of our rock-slinger makes perfect sense. It almost looks like he’s aiming off to the side instead of at his gigantic foe.

Brendan: Ooh, dem colors doe! I am entranced by the colors in those wings. On top of our gorgeous color palette we have some incredible and rich background images that keep you interested. All in all this is a quality cover.
Dave: I like how the wings curve around the top and the toothy vine curves at the bottom. Good border effect.
Emerald City of Oz #2
Brendan: IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE HE’S SCARED OF A SMALL DOG. OH HO HO! WHAT A COWARD!
Dave: Do we realize how strong this dude is or what? That’s one giant leap.
Dave’s Pick
Superior Carnage #2
Dave: I just really love the perspective of this cover. We’re looking down on the monster that is Carnage and he’s framed beautifully by the gadgets, wooden table and brick floor. The blue that’s peeking out of the symbiote also gives our monster a bit of a pop.
Brendan: It’s the new-age Frankenstein! I love the dark colors that are contrasted with the electric blues. The classic horror vibe runs strong as well and I think the concept was a perfect choice.

Age Of Ultron #10.1 AI (2nd Printing)
Brendan: This may be a second printing cover but I still love it! I think we saw a Batman cover like this a while ago but the concept still strikes home. Who would Ultron be without Pym? And how much of Pym is inherently part of Ultron? This is some deep shit for a comic cover!
Dave: I like how Pichelli has given the Ultron metal some weight and depth. It’s not some chocolate dip covering, but a bona fide metallic prison.
