Is It Good? Elektra #3 Review

Elektra was off to a monster island all the while being chased by an aboriginal looking dude who eats his victims and gains their strength and powers. He wants to eat Elektra next, but maybe he’s biting off more than he can chew. Hehe. Is it good?

Is It Good? Elektra #3 Review

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Elektra is after Cape Crow and she has his son in tow in order to find him. She’s supposed to kill the master assassin, but the son has convinced her otherwise. This issue opens with Elektra and the son swimming down to an ancient city where the son thinks they’ll find him. Before any of that transpires we get a page of our villain as he’s eating and consuming the powers of his enemy.

Writer Haden Blackman sure is capturing the mystical nature of the villain and the journey Elektra is going on. She’s after an assassin, yes, but also chasing her past. Considering she’s died before, became possessed and has generally been a villain over the years there’s a very complicated character to explore here. The last two pages get into the meat and potatoes of this, and while that isn’t a lot of time spent, it’s the strongest moment of the issue. The rest is plot progression and a fight scene with our villain which should keep the action fans happy.

Num num!

The art by Michael Del Mundo is a little less poetic this go around, but it’s still a marvel to see. He’s got some impressive work that looks watercolor like, which helps imbue the sense of dreamlike wonder that series is going for. I will say the action sequence is a little less inspired than his work on the first two issues, but it gets the job done and isn’t confusing in the slightest.

Dead ringer for a Muppet!

Is It Good?

This is a good issue, although it’s not great. The story progresses, the art is pretty good, and the most entertaining piece is teased for the next issue. Overall though this is good writing and a comic that shouldn’t go unnoticed, especially when it’s collected.
