The interdimensional team up between two of IDW’s most well-known and beloved franchises draws to an action packed close. Is it good?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters #4 (IDW Publishing)

While Egon and Donnie work on a way to get the Turtles back home, the rest of our combined crew fight a very pissed off Chi-You along with his minions.

After some proton streams, demon possession, and a Ghostbusters 2 reference (!!!), the fight and the quest to get the heroes in a half shell back home come to a frenetic end.

Is it Good?

Okay, that may be overselling it a bit.

The plot of this book isn’t anything to write home about. In fact, it feels so generic at times that it’s almost painful. Fortunately, that’s not what makes TMNT/Ghostbusters a good read.

Erik Burnham does a fantastic job scripting the banter between the two teams. There’s plenty of fan service and in-jokes, but the tone and flow of the characters’ dialogue is absolutely pitch perfect, as well. He also makes sure not to wink at the audience so many times that it gets tiresome (and once again, I would like to thank him personally for utilizing a plot point from Ghostbusters 2).

Meanwhile, artist Dan Schoening and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado continue with the same stellar work they’ve throughout the series. Add in an ending that’s funny, sentimental, and even a little creepy, and this franchise crossover can put on a bow on nice little gift to Ghostbuster and TMNT fans alike.

The story is about as generic as it gets. Fortunately, the pitch perfect dialogue makes up for it.
