Gore, sex, and monsters: is there really anything else you need to satiate your entertainment desires?
Fistful of Blood is quintessential B-Movie grindhouse sort of fun, but can it stick the landing in its final issue?

IDW’s solicit reads:
Just as Blondie loses all hope in her battle with the Zombies and Vampires, a gang of Ducati riding, black leather, Mac 10 toting thugs roll into town, seeking refuge after a bank heist – the whole town explodes in a battle for the last man, or woman, standing – in a climax you don’t want to miss.
The story focuses on a small town that once was used for movie sets. It’s long forgotten and now vampires, robots and zombies hunt the dumb tourists who pass along. A strange mute woman in fishnets is making things difficult for them though. We finally get answers as to who she is this week!
Why does this book matter?
Forget that Simon Bisley is one of the best gratuitous sex artists today; this is a classic being brought back in a new improved edition! That’s something to keep an eye on.

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?
If you’re looking for tons of gore and plenty of monster madness I’m not sure there is anything this month or even this entire year that’ll rival Fistful of Blood. Eastman essentially stuffs the first half of this issue with heads being ripped off, monsters assuming they’ll win only to be fried themselves and lots of eyeballs popping out. It’s nonsensical and outrageous fun. It may not matter what is happening, but it’s certainly fun to look at.
The second half however is quite enjoyable for those looking for a bit of character and story. It reveals a lot about the bigger story behind everything and it’s quite surprising. Our mysterious girl is finally explained too and it actually gives the story a bit of explanation. She’s not just some random girl, people! Her story ends with ultra violence too and she’s sent off quite well.
The art of course is quite fun and cartoony. It’s certainly not overly graphic due to the style being less than photorealistic, which makes it kooky and fun and should satisfy folks who find themselves fans of said style.
It can’t be perfect can it?
Ultimately the opening half is rather flat and without purpose. It’s violence for violence’s sake which might be a lot of people’s bag, but for me there wasn’t enough to chew on story wise to care all much. That second half though was great!
