‘Batman: Facts and Stats from the Classic TV Show’ Review

ATTENTION: CLASSIC BATMAN FANS.

Titan Books recently released Batman: Facts and Stats from the Classic TV Show which documents the heroes, villains, and groovy gadgets from the 60s television series. Can this live up to the hype? Is it Good?

Batman: Facts and Stats from the Classic TV Show

Good news. Batman: Facts and Stats from the Classic TV Show perfectly reflects the show that it depicts. Filled with 80 pages of colorful slashes, collages, and plenty of interesting facts, this book serves as an ideal coffee table book for any Batman fan (if coffee table books are still a thing). The book is organized thematically with detailed pages of our hero and associates, closer looks at infamous sequences throughout the three seasons, and then the multitude of nefarious villains that opposed the heroic duo. Each page includes notes, quotes, and captions documenting the character or gadget with a short bio, the episodes they’ve been featured in, and a blurb about the storyline.

Personally, I’m a fan of the show, but not on a “super fan” level. That’s why I was still able to enjoy facts such as “The Riddler was the most common villain, appearing in 8 episodes,” or the fact there were 32 onscreen “Batclimbs” featuring that awkward vertical camera shot. It’s not a dense read by any means, but the pages pack a lot of material among the pictures, layered graphics and sound effect bubbles.

However, the book doesn’t contain the type of information I expected going into it. The book mostly summarizes the various aspects as seen on the show, rather than giving details about the filming process and actors themselves. I was hoping for some quotes from the actors rather than the character’s themselves, but it’s a lot of information that you could accumulate yourself having watched the series a hundred times and analyzed it closely. However, it’s much easier just to buy the book and enjoy it.

Is It Good?

Batman: Facts and Stats is entertaining and a fun read for the casual Batman fan, but if you’ve watched every episode of the show and can quote it on a daily basis there won’t be as much meat in this book for you. If you’re looking for some never been heard secrets about the history behind the show, you’ll have to look elsewhere. Here’s one for free: Burt Ward (Dick Grayson) gave some fans the “Ultimate Autograph” which was his name written in bat semen. Holy TMI Batman!
