Greg Salinger isn’t the only man to ever hold his murderous moniker, and in Foolkiller #3, the villain-turned-merc-turned-psychotherapist will have to face his past and make a critical decision. Is it good?

Wait, I’ve got it — a show about NOTHING! And music about our NOTHING feelings! And a protagonist locked up in the loony bin writing NOTHING about NARWHALS! Man, the ’90s were a crazy time.
So crazy that when our favorite Foolkiller was hidden away, another rose up. There must always be one! Especially in the post-Punisher era, or so says Gary the mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. agent — who may not be who he says he is. What a way to fall off the wagon!
Is It Good?
Past, present and maybe future collide in Foolkiller #3, in a roiling stew of drama and plot payoffs. As seen in issue #2, writer Max Bemis is a freight train of story development, rapidly shifting the tone from humor to horror and solving mysteries we’ve only just started to wonder about. It’s almost as if he knows he needs to hurry up and tell his story while he can, which ensures readers will get a complete tale, if only their heads can stop spinning long enough to appreciate it.
The returning marauder in Foolkiller #3 is truly menacing, even if his motivation falls a little flat, and Greg’s response is about as bad-ass as you’ll ever see from a professional therapist. The new wrinkle on Foolkiller’s benefactor is interesting if not unexpected, and it leads to a major turning point that will surely influence the remainder of the series which, after issue #3, is once again left in a completely different place than it was 20 pages previously.
Dalibor Talajić’s art in Foolkiller #3 both improves and declines, as his faces are more expressive but the storytelling suffers in spots, especially in the unclear opening sequence. Colorist Miroslav Mrva puts his pastels away, for the betterment of the book, and delivers a more authentic appearance than in issue #2.
Foolkiller #3 continues the series’ massive momentum, delivering more in one issue than many books can muster in an entire arc. Don’t come looking to this one for laughs, though, as the developments here are deadly serious. Meet the new guy, same as the old guy.
