Before the dawn of the internet and the subsequent obsolescence of cheat codes being a “big deal” in video games, there existed a code for the original Metroid on the NES — the Justin Bailey code.
Inputting the password “JUSTIN BAILEY” at the Metroid password screen would cause Samus to appear in-game sans Power Suit, instead wearing a magenta leotard, but still with her trademark Arm Cannon. This was as big deal not only because cheat codes were more of a novelty but because it revealed that Samus Aran was a female — something fairly unique back in 1987.
