Why does this book matter?

Kyle Starks has brought a whirlwind of hilarity to this series since he joined on as writer and this arc has been more of the same. Marc Ellerby continues to write interesting backups, and the general art and humor is in tune with the TV show (When is it coming on already?!). A lot to love and not to miss!

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Rick and Morty #23 Review
Cat Beth is freaking me out.

Starks concludes this chapter well with a bit of misdirection and exploits from our universe’s Jerry. The poor guy has been stuck with doofus Rick for some time, but with a little ingenuity they manage to make their way back to our dimension. Meanwhile, Rick concocts a plan somewhat spoiled by the cover, but it involves a bit of evil genius torture to go along with it. Everything wraps up nicely and there’s a few funnies to get your belly jiggling to boot. One of my favorite moments involves a montage of sorts as Jerry and Doofus Rick travel across dimensions, with a few sight gags and adult jokes thrown in for good measure.

There’s also a nice use of the cover’s mecha-Rick with a throwback to the Power Rangers for nostalgia fans. It doesn’t quite have the time to pay it its due, but it’s a fun addition.

Marc Ellerby’s backup is without a doubt a must read for Rick and Morty fans. The fan favorite Meeseeks make an appearance and it’s nice ode to anyone who has worked in retail. Summer just can’t catch a break man!

Art by CJ Cannon with colors by Katy Farina keep the issue looking very close to the show. There are some nice visual humor moments that work due to the art and you can’t fault a dimension of butts. Just sayin’!

It can’t be perfect can it?

There’s a bit more plot than usual to wrap things up so on a comedy scale for Starks I’d put this at a 7 when he’s reached 10 in previous issues. It’s still a good issue, entertaining too, but it’s not making me laugh like before. Make me laugh Starks!

Toaster world is my new jam. Get it?!

Is It Good?

Rick and Morty wraps up its latest story arc in an entertaining way with a backup that’s must read for fans. There’s still no date for season 3 of Rick and Morty, but if this series continues on like it has the wait won’t be that tough after all.
