Brian Michael Bendis’ time on this series is closing out, which has us excited for the epic story sure to come. This issue focuses in on Angela and builds towards the finale next issue, but is it good?

Why does this book matter?
I’m all for more Angela in Marvel comics partly because she has yet to feel cohesively part of the universe so far. This issue gives her an entire issue to kick ass, which should make fans of hers quite happy.
Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Valerio Schiti certainly brings the noise so to speak with a lot of awesome Angela action utilizing all her powers. From her fighting ability to her ribbons she can control with her mind, you get the full brunt of her abilities here. And she looks damn great doing her thing. There’s a particular flip she does, upside down with her legs in a split, that looks cool in an acrobatic sort of way. I also love how Schiti draws her helmet and eyes with plenty of detail. The villain Angela spars with in this issue is particularly nasty looking with good inks to make his eyes that much more evil looking. As Angela fights the cityscape is quite pretty, with a nice glow of yellow (colors by VC’s Cory Petit) and detail throughout. You will never doubt Angela is fighting in a real and robust city.
The story here isn’t too bad either. Opening with Angela conversing with Gamora, you get a sense of their relationship and the respect they have for each other. Bendis has Angela converse with an average human, which is always a fun respite from the fighting as it shows how one of us normals would act around a godlike character. Much of the rest of the issue is action, though there’s some fun elements thrown in (like Angela using a gnome as a weapon).
That’d be an annoying thing to encounter her. Also awesome.
It can’t be perfect can it?
Seeing as much of this issue is action it’s a quick read. The scene with the everyday person is interesting though it does feel like filler on top of an issue that’s action-filler already. Ultimately it’s an entertaining read regardless.
Is It Good?
This is an entertaining issue due to the well choreographed action. It’s also good at showing Angela in different types of moments which makes her feel more complex.
