Fresh on the case, The Spirit is investigating some strange happenings. What seemed to be a routine investigation is turning out to be more than he bargained for. Will Eisner’s amazing character is coming to life again in *The Corpse-Maker* #2–is it good?

If you like a dark, gritty detective story, this is definitely the series for you. We were introduced to the anniversary edition of The Spirit a few weeks ago and part 1 was done so well that I couldn’t imagine part 2 being any less intriguing, and thankfully, I was mostly right. It opens up with some news coverage of the happenings from part 1–you’re going to see more on the bad guy side for the first section of the issue. It’s written in a way that’s pretty easy to follow, but if you’re looking for a long read look elsewhere–dialogue here is short and concise. It’s not lazy by any means, just minimal. Imagery takes center stage here–the Spirit’s tie is especially great; I love the red on the blue tinted pages. His first few scenes draw your eye because the only extra color is the tie. Very well done.

The center section seems to be introducing maybe a partner type character? I have to admit I got a bit lost when the scene changed with my mind still thinking it was The Spirit talking. The transition was just really quick. There’s a great story building scene around the end that is going to be a great lead into the next part.

The issue itself was good, however it felt a bit rushed and there just wasn’t much to actually read. The images were fantastic, though so it made up for the lack of dialogue.
