Injustice 2 #5 Review

Injustice 2 #5 is the best issue of the series so far and one of the best issues of the year overall. It’s that damn good! This is a Ted Kord Blue Beetle story that outshines the rest of what’s going on in the Injustice 2 universe and makes you want more. It’s exciting to see a comic book taken so seriously that you forget that it comes from a video game.

As I said, this issue is the Ted Kord Blue Beetle story that’s been long overdue. Every panel with Ted Kord is mesmerizing. I was devoted to this issue and quickly found a personal connection with Ted Kord. It’s such lovely storytelling that brings in more than just a few emotions. So many moments in this book will make you laugh, smile, and then finally rip your heart out of your chest.

The writing is better than fantastic. Tom Taylor delivered probably my favorite comic book of the year so far which is a surprise because I’m not normally a fan of Ted Kord as Blue Beetle. Bruno Redondo did an amazing job on the art in this issue, however I’m not a fan of the overall look of Batman. It’s not appealing to me at all. Everything else looks beautiful especially seeing Ted Kord back in Blue. Booster Gold is another character that was fun to see and even though he’s only in it for a short period of time, I hope we get so much more of him.

Injustice 2 #5 Review

Batman has some moments but it was nice to see the story move away from Batman for once and focus on characters that have had little to no story at all so far. There are a decent amount of cameos of characters that I hope we get to see more of that the video game will surely never have. Ra’s al Ghul’s involvement is the most interesting story featuring the character that I’ve seen in a long time. Just when I feel like they’ve done everything they can with Ra’s Al Ghul, they introduce him in the Injustice 2 comics with a breathtaking story. And it’s not the usual “assassin” story; he’s got a team featuring some of the best characters in the DC Universe.

Injustice 2 #5 is a must read. I can’t fathom about how important it is for everyone to check out this issue. I honestly wish that the Injustice 2 video game was based on this direction that the comics are taking instead of the Braniac story. The video game had a decent story but it wasn’t anything special. There weren’t any moments that had me emotionally invested or mind-blowing like the Injustice 2 comics. Not taking away from the video game at all as I actually enjoy it very much, but this comic book in particular was so good I wish I could have seen this in the game or hopefully see it in a live-action movie at some point.

Is it good?
Injustice 2 #5 is more than a must-read comic. It's the best Ted Kord story that has been told in recent years. This is the best comic book of the year so far and the best issue of Injustice 2 thus far.
Giving Ted Kord the spotlight was my favorite part of this issue. It made me a fan of a character that I never thought I'd care for
The writing was so perfect that this easily became my favorite issue of the year.
