Mike Judge’s long running animated series King of the Hill might be the next cancelled series to be brought back by the Fox network.
According to a report by Variety, Dana Walden, Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, said: “We have had preliminary conversations with Greg [Daniels] and Mike [Judge]. I would like to explore that. We had a very preliminary conversation about that. Given what’s going on in the country, I think they had a point of view about how those characters would respond.”
King of the Hill was abruptly cancelled in 2009 despite steady ratings. The timing of the cancellation lined up with the debut of Seth MacFarlane’s third animated series for the network, The Cleveland Show, which took over King of the Hill‘s time slot.
While it’s not set in stone, Fox has recently brought back other beloved series from its past, including The X-Files and 24. And Judge himself is no stranger to reviving old series–Beavis and Butthead aired an eighth season in 2011, 14 years after its original run had ended. The political climate in the United States is vastly different than it was in 2009, so it would be interesting, as Walden said, how the rural propane salesman and his family reacted to modern times.
