If one quick-witted sharpshooter isn’t enough for you then try being stranded on an island with two Hawkeyes. In Marvel’s new Generations release we get to follow an amazing contest between the best archers EVER! Time and space can’t put a barrier on the action unfolding in this issue. As the story unfolds we follow Kate Bishop — Hawkeye — as she tries to figure out what’s going on and how Clint Barton — other Hawkeye — fits into the events occurring on their secluded game reserve. Is it good?
This issue is pretty spectacular — I’m really excited to see where they’re going with this series. I’m loving that The Archers are getting their own section. I haven’t done a lot of research into Kate Bishop’s character but she’s got a great presence on the page. There’s a short bio on the cover that will help those of you that are in the same place as me when it comes to back story, which is nice. From what I can tell her story has only been around-in the real world-for about 12 years, relatively new in the scheme of things. The back and forth between her and Clint is really intriguing. Her monologue tells you that she’s got a lot of insight on him but with time travel being a thing in this issue, he’s got no recollection of her. They play off each other well, even with the disassociation.
If you like random cameos then you’re going to be entertained. Just imagine every archer, sharpshooter and trickshot you’ve read about before and you’ll probably see a glimpse of them in this issue.
The story itself is a bit predictable — a bunch of criminals and heroes on an island with one goal: be the last one left standing. They do a good job of making an interesting dialogue out of the scenario which is helpful. Not extremely difficult to figure out the conclusion but they do give you a few surprises before the end.

The design is done well overall — I was really impressed by the detail in the close-ups. The emotions and attitudes are showcased really well and the scenery is beautiful. I was a bit disappointed in the distance images of the main characters, though. They get pretty blurry and the lines lose some definition; at one point Clint’s a bit blob-like with a tiny head. It’s an interesting sight.
Overall, I’m loving the initial introduction of the two characters’ story. I know there’s quite a bit of history between the two in previous books but this really allows the novice reader to enjoy the experience.
