Starwars.com announced today J.J. Abrams is taking over on the writing and directing duties for Star Wars: Episode IX after Colin Trevorrow unexpectedly left the project.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had this to say:

With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.

This is great news for Disney and Star Wars fans alike since Abrams not only has a working relationship with the studio but because he’s proven he can pull off a Star Wars film fans will enjoy. Abrams is also known for completing films on time and under budget so here’s hoping Episode IX will hit theaters at the planned time of May 24th, 2019!

    Sigh

With all honestly, I still enjoy TFA, but it had a lot of problems; it wasn’t original in the slightest, relied way too much on plot conveniences, was way too face paced, too many scenes were cut out, not enough was explained, bland designs, among other things. I feel a lot off that falls on Abrams’ shoulders, while Abrams did a competent job with TFA overall, I want the final Star Wars film to be original, to have respect for the entire saga, not just the OT, I want a film that’s a satisfying conclusion to the saga and I just cannot bring myself to trust him with this.

Go beg Spielberg to do it, or Rian Johnson, Jon Faverau (no one wants that Lion King remake anyway), Gareth Edwards, Peter Jackson, put Dave Filoni in charge as he’s done magnificent with both animated series, hell even beg Treverow to come back, just don’t make this film safe and bland.
