After a closely contested and physical final, Joshi sensation Kairi Sane has won the first ever Mae Young Classic Tournament. Sane managed to overcome the imposing Shayna Baszler in the eleventh hour with her Insane Elbow drop, besting the former MMA fighter in what was easily the most physical bout in the women’s tournament.

Formerly known as Kairi Hojo, Sane is considered one of the best wrestlers in the world. She is a one-time World of Stardom champion, three-time Goddess of Stardom champion and four time Artist of Stardom champion in her previous promotion. Sane signed with the WWE earlier this year and is expected to compete on the NXT brand in the future.

Baszler antagonizing the WWE’s Four Horsewomen

For her part, Shayna Baszler may have bigger plans on the horizon. A member of Ronda Rousey’s stable of MMA Horsewomen, rumors have been circulating that Baszler, Rousey, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir may face off with professional wrestling’s Four Horsewomen (Bayley, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair) in some context at the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Featuring 32 competitors from across the world, the Mae Young Classic showcased several of the top women wrestlers in the world today. Though some standout performers such as Sane, Bianca Belair and Lacey Evans have already been signed to WWE contracts, the company has been coy when discussing future plans for other popular competitors such as Toni Storm, Piper Niven and Candace LeRae.
