Writer Donny Cates has only just taken over the Thanos ongoing series, with the lucky #13 issue coming out next month, and he’s already fixing to blow up the internet. Although it’s a bit of a time bomb.
“The second issue of my run, if I were a betting man, you should go and pick up,” Cates told the assembled at New York Comic Con’s Cup O’Joe Marvel Legacy: Avengers panel on Saturday. Whatever happens in Thanos #14, it’s so big, Cates thought for sure editorial would refuse to print it.
“To my utter shock,” Cates admitted, “they said, ‘Let’s do this!'”
The cover for Thanos #14, along with that for Thanos #15, which caused Cates to exclaim, “I haven’t seen that colored; that’s so dope!”
Thanos #13 begins the “Thanos Wins” storyline, where the being who’s come closer to ruling the universe than anyone finally succeeds, only to find out it may not be what he wanted. Cates thinks readers will be surprised, too.
“You will not see this coming,” he said.
Thanos #13, written by Donny Cates and drawn by Geoff Shaw, arrives on November 22. Thanos #14 follows on December 27.
