Rey’s parentage will be revealed in ‘The Last Jedi’, says Daisy Ridley – and Adam Driver may have just spoiled it

Adam Driver’s curious choice of words in a recent interview fuels speculation of what we’ll see in ‘The Last Jedi’.

We’re about a month and a half out from the highly anticipated release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the ninth episode in everybody’s favorite space opera. The previous installment, The Force Awakens, left us with perhaps more questions than answers — chief among them being, “who are Rey’s parents?”

According to Daisy Ridley, the actress who plays the force-sensitive scavenger, we’ll find out December 15. In a new interview with Yahoo! Japan, she said (paraphrasing from the rough Google translation from Japanese):

Whatever the answer is, I hope everyone will enjoy that moment. I knew the answer a few years ago, but the story that Ryan Johnson co-wrote was so wonderful — I couldn’t imagine it. Honestly, I was very moved. I think that everyone will be.

To add to the speculation, Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren in the sequel trilogy, had a very interesting choice of wording in a recent interview with GQ:

I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned’, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level…You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.

Princess, you say? Did Adam Driver misspeak or did he just drop the hint of the century?

Let the speculation begin. Is she Luke’s daughter? Leia’s, making her Kylo Ren’s sister? The love child of Mon Mothma and Chewbacca? We won’t know until December 15.
