Weezer’s new album, “Pacific Daydream,” features a reference to the Star Wars planet Hoth.
Heads-up, Star Wars fans, there’s a reference to the ice planet Hoth on Weezer’s new album, Pacific Daydream, in the song “QB Blitz.” In the track’s chorus, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo sings:
This intercom is broken into pieces
I gotta call my QB Blitz, B Blitz
Out on the ice fields of Hoth
I’ll be missing you like oxygen (xygen)
Whoah whoa (x3)
I’ll be missing you like oxygen
You wouldn’t expect a shout-out to The Empire Strikes Back on such a modern pop-leaning album, but you also wouldn’t expect a song called “QB Blitz” to be one of Pacific Daydream’s best tunes–but it is! Classic Rivers.
During the “Memories Tour,” which kicked off in 2010 and featured the band playing the Blue Album and Pinkerton in their entirety, Rivers and the gang shared the stage with a Chewbacca standup.
There’s also this T-shirt design:And, of course, this isn’t the first geeky reference in Weezer’s catalog. “In the Garage,” from the band’s iconic debut album, begins with:
I’ve got Dungeon Master’s Guide
I’ve got a 12-sided die
I’ve got Kitty Pryde
And Nightcrawler too
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do
