Netflix renews ‘The Punisher’ for season 2

“Frank Castle is just getting started.”

Look out, evil doers of New York City: Frank Castle will be back.

Netflix has renewed Marvel’s The Punisher for a second season less than one month after the release of season 1, the company revealed via a Facebook post today, noting that “Frank Castle is just getting started.”

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal and is the sixth Marvel series on Netflix, after Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. Viewers were first introduced to The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil, where Frank Castle crossed paths with fellow vigilante Matt Murdock.

The Punisher received mixed reviews critically, but clearly was watched by enough people to prompt Netflix to renew the series. Season 1 revolved around The Punisher working with Micro to take down the people indirectly responsible for the deaths of his family. After his pseudo origin story in Daredevil and The Punisher season 1, it will be interesting to see where the character goes from here.
