Kendrick Lamar hints at a new song for ‘Black Panther’ soundtrack

Is Kendrick Lamar dropping a song for the upcoming Black Panther movie?

Upcoming MCU movie Black Panther has us pretty damn hyped. Something that could have us even more fired up? Seven-time Grammy award winning hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar dropping a song for the film’s soundtrack.

With how seamless and integral “The Immigrant Song” in Thor: Ragnarok and remixed versions of “Legend Has It” by Run the Jewels and “Bagbak” by Vince Staples were to the official Black Panther trailer, the prospect of Lamar spitting flames about Wakanda could be even more befitting. What was it he said in the bridge of “DNA.” from his chart-topping “DAMN.” album, again? “I got loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA.”

K. Dot has foreshadowed his work for Black Panther in the video for hit-single “Love,” featuring Zacari:

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) and T’Challa/Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman expressed their personal links to King Kendrick’s music being a proper fit for the film in an July interview with the Los Angeles Times:

The lyrics are amazing — a lot of Kendrick’s are,” said Coogler, who also co-wrote “Black Panther” with Joe Robert Cole. “It’s actually oddly literal for our trailer’s purposes — and I think a lot of the cultural things we’re dealing with in Wakanda are in the zeitgeist in the African American community.

You’re talking about a world that would exist if the Egyptians were never conquered, if Sumeria was never conquered and was allowed to progress — that’s what Wakanda is.

“As soon as I heard it on his album for the first time I said, ‘They should use that song,'” Boseman said. “I just thought it would fit. I didn’t know if they’d do it or not, but I thought it was perfect.”

Black Panther hits theaters on February 16th, 2018.

Looking forward to Kendrick Lamar’s work for the Black Panther soundtrack? What will the song sound like and what will its lyrics entail? Sound off in the comments.
