The lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi from 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope is legendary because of the gravitas surrounding the twenty-year rematch between former apprentice and mentor after their life-altering encounter on Mustafar in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Because it was the first lightsaber battle we ever witnessed (in real-life, not in-universe) though, it tends to look a little dated compared to some of the whirling, pirouetting, backflipping, ostentatious antics from later encounters. Not anymore thanks to a VFX project from FXitinpost:
The project sees a much more aggressive Vader that lends credence to the strength increase from his cybernetic enhancements and his twenty-years of increasingly malicious servitude under the Emperor. Does the project look like a worthy update to the legendary showdown? Sound off in the comments.
