Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Loot Crate fans. The December 2017 Loot Crate, the very last Loot Crate of the year has finally arrived. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Loot Crate, it’s a subscription service made for the nerds of the world. Once a month you’re shipped a box with a t-shirt and handful of other collectibles, with themes ranging from video games to television, film and comics. Shipping woes aside, the bang is typically very much worth the buck. For the price of a t-shirt you’ll get a box of goodies that come in all sorts of themes and gimmicks. Alright enough chatter. Let’s dig in.

With this being the last Loot Crate of the year during the holiday season and The Last Jedi coming out this month, I had really high expectations for this Loot Crate. I’m sad to say those expectations didn’t even come close to being met. Out of the box, the Robotech LED light was damaged, even though it was shipped in a secure package. This tells me that either the manufacturer messed it up, or one of the folks at Loot Crate did. Either way, I’d expect some sort of quality control in place to catch this type of thing.

While I love Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 I can’t say I care an ounce about a calendar. I don’t know anyone who owns a smartphone and uses a traditional calendar in place of that. The Destiny 2 t-shirt was okay, but for a game with such stunning sci-fi visuals and environments I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by the chosen shirt design.

The only item inside that I was excited about was the Star Wars comic published by IDW. They’re one of the smaller publishers but they put out a lot of great stuff and the quality of the art and book itself are great. I’m looking forward to digging into the story and researching if it’s actually canon or not.

I was so hoping Loot Crate would give us a Star Wars themed box given that The Last Jedi is the biggest nerd event of the year, or heck even a holiday themed box. Instead I got a box with a damaged item and mostly useless stuff. Hopefully next year’s box starts us off on a better foot.

Loot Crate: December 2017
Is it good?
Really nice Star Wars comic from IDW.
Neat little rocket pin
One of the items arrived damaged.
Who uses a physical calendar these days? Let alone nerds.
T-shirt for a video game most players quit out over frustration of price and DLC.
Less than half the box interests me.
Didn't meet my expectations for the last Loot Crate of the year.
