First official trailer for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ is here

You’ve never heard of the Millennium Falcon?

Last night during Super Bowl LI we got our first look at Solo: A Star Wars Story, the latest film in the Star Wars franchise. The 45 second teaser TV spot made it’s anticipated appearance early on during a commercial break to the delight of Star Wars fans everywhere.

This morning we’re getting another look at the film in it’s first official full-length trailer. Check it out.

From the official synopsis:

“During an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.”

While the trailer is only a minute and forty-three seconds long, there’s a lot we can learn about the film. We learn Solo has been a trickster since he was 10, surviving by guile and wits on the streets and his dream is to become the best pilot in the galaxy. The Falcon of course makes an appearance, but it’s a Falcon we’ve never seen before with it’s squeaky clean white walls and spotless controls.

Donald Glover looks the part as the smooth talking swindler, criminal and gambler Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson and his telltale smirk are present in the form of Tobias Beckett, a criminal hiring Han for a job. It’s not clear what role actress Emilia Clarke has to play, though she looks elegant in the moments we glimpse of her.

Is Alden Ehrenreich the Han Solo we’ve all been waiting for? He certainly has the cockiness and bravado when he’s evading TIE-fighters and a Star Destroyer in a stormy nebula chase. Though whether or not the actor can live up to the legend remains to be seen. This writer certainly hopes so.

The film is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018 — the 41st anniversary of A New Hope, where Harrison Ford first appeared as Han Solo.
