The Avengers.  The name has been part of comics history since its inception in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.  In the larger, pop culture zeitgeist, the Avengers are a multi-billion dollar film franchise that have shaped film making for the past decade.  Just in time for the release of the most expansive film in the franchise, Avengers: Infinity War, a new coloring book arrives on the scene for those inclined towards colored pencils, crayons, and markers, kids and adults alike.  The book gathers together the entire roster of Avengers from the 55 years of comics into one volume, bursting with 120 pages of Marvel comics action.  And, when I say the entire roster, I mean the ENTIRE ROSTER.

From the original Gort-looking Iron Man to OG Ms. Marvel to Wolverine, this volume collects all of the Avengers under a huge number of artists into one action-packed book.  My 8 year old was thrilled to open the book and flip through the pages, seeking out his favorites and the ones he’s never met.  In contrast, my 3 year old yelled “Hulk smash!” a lot.  I, of course, went right for my own hero, Captain America.  This is an excellent opportunity for those of us with kids to introduce them to our favorite Avengers, whether they’ve appeared in the Marvel films or not.

The joke about the Avengers, nod to Patton Oswalt, is that anyone can be an Avenger.  Heck, they’ve got a guy who uses a bow and arrow.  But, think about that sentence for a moment: anyone can be an Avenger.  That’s an inspiring message to send to our kids, and one we should often remember ourselves.
