Weapon H has been an interesting character that spun out of Weapon X. It’s all about a soldier who was tested on to become a Hulk but also have the adamantium abilities of Wolverine due to adamantium nanobots. He’s coincidentally been drawn into some Roxxon business, which has sparked Doctor Strange’s interest too. This guy can’t keep himself hidden.

So what’s it about?

Read our preview.

Why does this matter?

The first issue was well written and made a case that our hero is needed due to some serious Roxxon troublemaking. It drew you in with its well-paced story, but also the good art from Cory Smith.

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Weapon H #2 Review
That’s going to leave a mark.
This issue opens with Doctor Strange essentially acting as recapper as he gazes mystically at Weapon H taking on a Wendigo. From there we are given a fight comic with some twists and turns as Weapon H attempts to keep the few civilians safe. Aside from fighting, this issue establishes another hero outside of the Weapon X lot to be aware of this new kind of Hulk. There are a few new details about Roxxon and what they’ve been up to — apparently they’ve tripled down on the monster business, which should give this new super-powered Hulkerine plenty to cut through.

Smith does a good job with the fight scenes, which is good since that’s about 90% of what this comic is all about. It’s clear what is going on and well-inked too. Doctor Strange makes an outstanding introduction via a portal and sporting some sick weaponry. There’s also an epic chest-bursting scene that should get the action fans in a frenzy. The design of a strange alien ship later in the issue is quite cool as well. No complaints.

War is hell.

It can’t be perfect can it?

As a fight comic, there isn’t a heck of a lot of character work we haven’t seen before. Weapon H has a good heart, confirmed again here, and his family isn’t as strong without him which is also something we knew. It’s not trying to be anything but an all-out action comic though, so you can’t judge it too harshly for the lack of plot development or character work. Looking at how this story flows from issue #1 it actually makes sense to pack so much fighting into this chapter since the last chapter was lighter on it. That said, I’m dying to learn more about Roxxon’s big secret teased last issue.

Is It Good?

An action-packed fight comic that doesn’t hold back with the violence. It also has plenty of monsters and for the hero to beat down in glorious battle.
