Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

Dave: This is one of the trippiest single issue comics I’ve ever read and boy…does this panel take the cake.

Brian: I want none of his magic. Everything happening here is a goddamn nightmare.

Lisa: He needed to finish that statement with “And clearly there is nothing magical about my hygiene”.

Dog: When did Salvador Dalí start directing “MTV Cribs”?

Star Wars #48
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Dave: The way the stars are stretching makes this look like it’s going to be one really bad crash.

Lisa: Why does Leia look like she has a thyroid condition?

Dog: Misguided avoidance of iodized salt?

Venom #1
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Donny Cates | Artist: Ryan Stegman
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Dave: I understand he’s strong and all but physics may want to have words with the creators about this one!

JJ: I hope the Venom film pays as much attention to drool as this comic does.

Jason: NOW THAT’S USING YOUR HEAD!!!…Don’t mind me, I’ll see myself out.

Dog: Stegman is a treasure. It’s impressive how his style has changed over the years, yet whatever he tries, he’s always great at it.

Adventure Time #74
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Conor McCreery | Artist: Jorge Monlongo
Publisher: BOOM! Studios

Dave: Possible new fad: Save money on color artists and just have the reader do it.

Lisa: Reverse rainbow vomit – that is some good shit they are on.

JJ: “Drawing Comics on Acid 101”, With special guest Jorge Monlongo.

Dog: I feel like this is the morning hangover version of the Moon Knight scene.

Jason: I thought Magic man lost his power and was now the king of Mars? It’s like the continuity of this show isn’t built to make any sense.

Barbarella #6
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Mike Carey | Artist: Kenan Yarar
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment

Dave: Thank god alien blue whales are bouncy.

JJ The judges like what they see. Nice form and solid improvisation. This teams bound to capture a high score.

Lisa: hmm…maybe i should start watching the Summer Olympics.

B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know #6

Lisa: A study of an ophthalmologists nightmare.

DC Nation #0
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Tom King | Artist: Clay Mann

Jason: Unfortunately for this poor guy, Bruce and Selina opted to send eVites instead.

Maestros #6
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer and artist: Steve Skroce
Publisher: Image Comics

JJ: I believe “WOW” is the word you’re looking for. Steve Skroce is a gift to the world of comics. This is the best two-page spread on the shelves right now.

Dog: That’s a lot of color for a monstrous hell-battle.

Deathbed #4
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Joshua Williamson | Artist: Riley Rossmo
Publisher: Vertigo Comics

Dave: Hugh Hefner’s pool area has seen better days.

Dead Hand #4
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Kyle Higgins | Artist: Stephen Moony

Dog: Captain Peggy Carter? What’s next, a “Contest of Champions” comic?!?!

Teether #1

JJ “How to get me to read your comic” by David Hutchison.

Jason: This perfectly illustrates why it’s important to teach the youth about consent.

Lisa: Gingivitis is real people.

Justice League No Justice #1
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, James Tynion IV | Artist: Francis Manapul
Publisher: DC Comics

Dave: When the Green Lantern Corps are running this small it’s time to call somebody bigger to the job. Galactus?

JJ Don’t worry everyone, Dave will be properly chastised for referencing a Marvel character. But seriously this shot’s incredible. Subsequently it’s also the best panel of the entire issue.

Dog: Mount Rushmore, two years from now.

Red Sonja #15
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Amy Chu, Erik Burnham | Artist: Carlos Gomez
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment

Dave: I think her chainmail is magnetized. Only explanation!

Jason: Chainmail is really only effective against slicing weapons. Stabbing weapons and projectiles will pop right through it. It’s almost as if her armor serves no real purpose.

Lisa: Ridiculous.

Brian: Did Frank Cho draw this?

Medieval Spawn and Witchblade #1
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - May 2018
Writer: Brian Holguin, Brian Haberlin | Artist: Brian Haberlin

Dave: Why is it Spawn makes the most sense in a medieval world?

JJ Why is that horses mouth so big? Sure Spawn looks cool an all, but the horse looks way more intimidating.

Lisa: Avon calling.

Batman White Knight #8
