It’s time for Bruce Wayne’s bachelor party — as you might expect, things do not go as planned. This time it’s Hush vs. Nightwing, the battle of who really fits the role of closest person to Batman with one being the childhood best friend turned evil and the other being the eldest adopted son of Bruce Wayne. Tim Seeley writes some really fun dialogue within the issue while working with Travis Moore, who brings it to life on artwork in a fantastic way.

So what’s it about?

The official summary reads:

Dick Grayson has a lot of responsibility. Being the original partner to Batman, he’s the natural choice to be Bruce Wayne’s best man. So if anyone has to get to the wedding, it’s going to be him. Too bad Hush has other plans–and maybe Bruce Wayne does, too!

Tell me about it!

There are some great callbacks to older comics within this issue. The first is obviously BatBurger, which debuted in issue #16 of Tom King’s Batman run as well as the joke of Bruce eating a burger with a knife and fork. The small costume nods to characters within BatBurger are fun. There’s Condiment King, Polka Dot and Carrie Kelly Robin. The driver of the SuperLimo is one of Superman’s robots back from the Silver Age when Superman needed some robots to stand in for him and they had signs around their necks saying what each of them did power wise as shown below.

Hush makes his return in this issue and Seeley does some interesting things with a character I often write off as being kinda boring. He’s angry that Bruce doesn’t consider him family despite the fact that he’s a murderous psychopath who has tried to kill him on multiple occasions. This causes him to blow up the limo and cause himself and Dick to fall into “the Betwixt” which is the space “between the real world and the unworld” full of zombie-like creatures with no faces. Interestingly enough the issue doesn’t have Hush and Nightwing fighting the whole way through and instead it’s more of a team up than a versus issue.

Is it good?
A fun story with quite a few references and great artwork!
Seeley writes interactions between the characters really well.
Moore provides some great artwork.
Seeley actually managed to make Hush interesting to me which is a hard sell.
Seeley introduces some fun new areas of the DC Universe.
I'm pretty sure the things with Hush towards the comic will be handwaved away by the next writer to use him.
