Former WWE Champion CM Punk wasn’t the only connection to the world of sports entertainment on last night’s UFC 225 pay-per-view event: following Punk’s fight, the company played an excellent video package announcing that the first-ever female UFC champion and current WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Ronda Rousey was a trailblazer in the world of MMA. UFC president Dana White famously once said that women will never fight in the octagon, but he had obviously said that before he met Ronda Rousey. Her intensity was unmatched and in short order became the most recognizable name in combat sports while amassing an awe-inspiring 12 fight win streak, the wins often coming in mere seconds. She brought many new eyes to the product, and helped pioneer women’s mixed martial arts.
Ronda’s win streak did eventually come to an end, something that the Baddest Woman on the Planet did not take gracefully. However, after years out of the public eye, Rousey turned her attention to another passion of hers: professional wrestling, when she signed with WWE and competed in her first pro wrestling match at WrestleMania, a feat no one else can claim (and it was the match of the night, too).
Rousey is revered in both the worlds of combat sports and sports entertainment, and many of her WWE contemporaries took to Twitter to congratulate her on the accomplishment.

Rousey looks to add more hardware to her trophy case when she takes on Nia Jax at next week’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view for the Raw Women’s Championship.
