Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #3 Review

We get a little bit closer to Tony Stark’s secret from Logan.

It has become quite clear the “Hunt for Wolverine” is more of a “Wait for Wolverine” sort of story. Each miniseries has barely gotten close to finding the revived bastard and it’s really starting to tick me off! If you avoid that frustration and take these series for what they are (fun side yarns until we get to the main course), then buckle up because they aren’t so bad.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

So what’s it about?

The official summary reads:

HAS SINISTER UNLOCKED THE SECRETS OF LOGAN’S GENES? The hunt for Wolverine has led his New Avengers teammates into the mysteries of the genetic codes of the heroes of the Marvel Universe… And where there are super-powered genes, you KNOW Mister Sinister is involved! Parental Advisory

Why does this matter?

This is one of the more fun “Hunt for Wolverine” miniseries due to it containing a ton of fan-favorite heroes. Tom Taylor writes a strong Iron Man who ends up being the lead in this story due to a secret only he knows. You card.

Read our review of issue #1, and issue #2.

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #3 Review

Fair point. Who would believe Logan though?

This issue isn’t quite as brisk as the last chapter which helps keep things entertaining and even. The flashbacks continue to give readers a tiny bit of detail on what is going on and it’s enough to keep your interest (at least for me). It’s quite clear at this point this is a team book that is less about Wolverine and more about this group interacting with each other. Taylor does a solid job of this having them riff off each other and at this point it’s a crying shame we won’t see this crew continue on.

This issue is plotted well too, opening with the cliffhanger, running into some reconnaissance and then diving into the next conflict. It also houses some nifty Iron Man suits you won’t want to miss.

R.B. Silva continues to draw a mean book that has the detail and glossy look fans expect from superhero books. Spider-Man, and really his webs, look fantastic and there’s a nice sheen on Iron Man too. There are some nifty looking Iron Man inspired suits for the heroes in this issue too. Not sure how Tony can whip up a suit so fast, but they look dang cool. The threat of water is a big deal in this issue and Silva capitalizes on that too. You get a good sense of the weight of the water, which helps make the submarine scenes tenser.

This can’t be good.

It can’t be perfect can it?

It’s safe to see this and the other “Hunt for Wolverine” stories are all decompressed. At just four issues each, they all seem slow and this one is not much different. It does get the table setting in order for a highly entertaining fourth issue, but at what cost! The answer, the cost of a couple more bucks to get a story that would have been ideal at two issues.

Is it good?

A good issue, but one that continues to keep things moving slowly. This issue has a lot going for it though and is an improvement on the last issue.

Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #3
Is it good?
A good issue that sets things up for what will most likely be an excellent finish.
The visuals continue to be very strong
Some sick Iron Man inspired suits
Plotted well
The pace is maddeningly slow
Tony's secret sure is drawn out
Can't escape the feeling none of this will matter much
