Hunt for Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda #4 Review

A finale well worth reading.

I have been very skeptical of the “Hunt for Wolverine” comics mostly because they seem to be pointless ($$$ aside). Sure, they promise to get to the bottom of where Wolverine is hiding, but so far they’ve been slow crawls that amount to little in finding Logan. That isn’t to say these comics are bad, but it’s certainly true they are longer than they should be. The “Adamantium Agenda” has had some high moments and I’m sure fans, like me, are hoping for big answers in this final fourth issue. News flash: there are.

Listen to the latest episode of our weekly comics podcast!

So what’s it about?

The official summary reads:

WHAT DARK SECRET LIES BENEATH THE SURFACE? The trail of Logan’s body has led the New Avengers to a completely different mystery…one that will cast a long, dark shadow over the X-Men…

Why does this matter?

This is it, the big finale, the ending we all hope delivers on some semblance of new information on where Wolverine has been hiding. At the very least the series must answer what it was Tony promised Logan years ago.

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Hunt for Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda #4 Review

Seriously, Tony has been the worst.

After being burned on answers in other “Hunt for Wolverine” comics I was pleasantly surprised by this issue. Tom Taylor not only delivers on some big reveals of new information, but he focuses our attention on Tony Stark, making readers respect him a little more after his horrible actions in the Civil War event. He, of course, cloned Thor (Clor we called him) and claimed it was the scientist in him that made it so. This story has dealt very heavily with DNA and cloning as Tony and a few Avengers have been on a quest to find Logan’s DNA — which may be on sale on the black market. This issue not only resolves that conflict but forces Tony to show he’s learned a lesson via his actions.

Taylor does a good job showing the uneasy nature the heroes have for Tony via new information in the reoccurring flashback between Logan and Tony and a somewhat comical moment later on dealing with spreadsheets. There’s plenty of reason to not trust him and the arc of this issue may change your mind. The issue also has some good action with plenty of explosives and violence for action fiends (rendered very well by R.B. Silva) and moments for each character to shine.

It’s the final two pages people will be talking about though. I won’t give it away here, but rest assured you will be shocked and pleasantly surprised with the reveals. It’s written well too because you won’t see it coming as the pages feel like epilogue moments, but drop some whoppers on you.

What a great moment.

It can’t be perfect can it?

Once again, the “Hunt” in the title is very misleading. I suppose on some level Taylor has delivered on a Wolverine reveal though it’s not the character you might be hoping for. As it stands these miniseries have had fun moments, but they were selling something that never quite delivered.

Is it good?

A great ending to a miniseries that may have been misguided in its selling point, but definitely delivers on superhero antics and big reveals. Seriously the ending of this comic is going to shock you.
