Thrilling Adventure Hour #2 review: Upping the spooky ante

Trapping the ghost reveals that there are greater shenanigans afoot, and even Frank and Sadie might not be ready for what’s coming next.

In this second issue, the spooks increase as Frank and Sadie tangle with a ghost and run out of liquor. Is it good?

In Switzerland, the mysterious box arrives for the next stage of its trip, continuing to influence the humans around it into murderous thoughts. Back in Brooklyn, the mysterious reporter runs into his potential story, Adam Silver, who is watching the house Frank, Sadie, Donna, and Dave are trapped in from across the street.

Inside, Frank and Dave are stuck in the basement, with Sadie and Donna upstairs, but both pairs are facing ghostly interactions. Luckily, Frank and Sadie know exactly how to handle things — with a stiff drink and a sigil to trap the spirit.

Is It Good?

Bens Acker and Blacker continue the story but up the pace and action as we get into the meat of the story. Not having to worry about introducing characters and setting up the world gives them a chance to relax and play in the way that they excel at. We get more of Sadie and Frank quips, which is always a good thing.

M.J. Erickson continues to do solid work on illustrating the action and physical expressions with the characters. I think her work is undercut slightly by the stellar cover art by Jonathan Case. I wish there was more detail in the interior art, which I know is in M.J.’s wheelhouse from her portfolio.

This issue has settled into a rollicking pace, and I’m definitely here for the continuing story.
