Batman and Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing AKA the original Robin may have just reunited in the pages of Batman #54, but Rebirth Bat-scribe Tom King is gearing us up for yet another avian-themed sidekick experience this December in Batman #60: longtime Batman nemesis Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin.
Per DC’s official synopsis:
Batman takes on a new partner, and it’s…the Penguin? After rejecting Bane’s crime-boss co-op, Cobblepot finds himself in the crosshairs of some very teed-off villains. The feathered felon turns to his old foe to snitch on Bane’s scheme, but has to prove his intentions to avoid a Bat-beatdown. Along the way, this Gotham odd couple begins to bond–could there be a new bird joining the Bat-Family? Not if Bane has anything to say about it…

We know that Bat and Cat’s wedding didn’t go through as planned in Batman #50 due to Bane’s looming machinations, so will Batman and the Penguin’s alliance be forged in an “enemy of my enemy is my friend”-type situation? We’ll find out this December.
Will the Batman/Penguin alliance be a lasting one? Will there be penguins with missile launchers ala Batman Returns? Or maybe some crazy conflation of sonar rigged bats and penguins ala Batman Forever?! Batman #60 hits stands December 5th, 2018.
