The BBC released the official trailer for the new Doctor Who series 11 today. Jodie Whittaker plays the role of the 13th Doctor and is the first female to lead the series in the iconic role.
Whittaker replaces the previous Doctor, Peter Capaldi, and made her debut on the show’s 2017 Christmas special, which showed her character’s regeneration.
“I’m the Doctor. When people need help, I never refuse,” says the Doctor as she waves her signature sonic screwdriver. During the trailer we see alien worlds, spaceships, explosions, lasers blasting away, alien creatures and the Doctor’s crew is along the ride.
Joining Jodie Whittaker for series 11 as the Doctor’s new companions are Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh, playing Yasmin, Ryan and Graham respectively.
The first episode “The Woman Who Fell to Earth” and the second episode “The Ghost Monument” are both written by series show runner, Chris Chibnall. This will be the first time since Doctor Who‘s seventh series, that each episode of the series is set to be a standalone story with no multi-parters.
The eleventh series is scheduled to be broadcast on Sundays, which is the first time in the programme’s history in which regular episodes won’t be broadcast on Saturday.
Doctor Who (series 11) is set to premiere in the US and UK on 7 October 2018, and will consist of ten episodes. The exact time slot has yet to be announced.
