SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned
Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers has been through a lot in her latest story arc. She’s learned who her mom really is, she thought her dad was a no good cheat, and she’s had to work through some pretty tough New England accents.
Her origin is particularly in focus in The Life of Captain Marvel and for good reason. As I detailed at the SDCC panel that covered it so well, Carol’s origin is a bit sexist. For a long time, Marvel has rebooted the character in various ways, but not until now did they do some heavy lifting to “fix” the character.
In the final issue of this arc, her origin has been completely set in stone. As we learned in issue #4 her mom is Kree so that makes her origin a tad different. To hammer it home, writer Margaret Stohl confirms when Mar-Vell protected her from the blast and it wasn’t his DNA that penetrated her, but an awakening of her own DNA. In an intense moment, Carol is incapacitated…
…and the truth is laid out plainly.
Further confirming this power she has was inherent and not given by Mar-Vell.
That’s only part of the story, though! I recommend picking up the issue to see how her life is changed forever (in a big way) digitally today.
