Venom sequel confirmed; original screenwriter signed on

Venom (Tom Hardy) is set to return to the big screen once more.

After grossing a staggering $855 million worldwide, it’s no big surprise the cogs for a sequel to Sony’s Venom have already been set in place; according to Variety, Kelly Marcel, a screenwriter from the first film, has already been secured for the sequel’s script.

Although the exact details of the deal weren’t disclosed, “Sources close to the negotiation tell Variety that Marcel’s deal was a significant one. Michelle Williams is expected to rejoin Hardy, as is Woody Harrelson, who will portray Carnage in the sequel. A director has not been set yet, though sources say the studio might look for a new filmmaker as Venom helmer Reuben Fleischer will be busy shooting the sequel to Sony’s Zombieland. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.”

Which type of symbiote storyline should be pursued in the Venom sequel? Have we already seen enough symbiote vs. symbiote action to make Carnage a stale villain?
