Another ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movie reboot is in development

The team behind ‘Out of the Shadows’ is looking to forget previous installments and reboot the series.

Cowabunga, dude! A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film reboot is in development. As Variety reports, A Quiet Place producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce alongside Michael Bay. The trio worked together on the most recent TMNT films in 2014 and 2016. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the most recent installment in the franchise, was considered a box office disappointment.

Andrew Dodge, writer of Jason Bateman comedy Bad Words, will write the script for the Turtles reboot.

Usually, the Turtles are pets accidentally dropped by a child into a sewer grate. Hamato Yoshi discovers them and chooses to look after them, but finds that they have mutated due to mutagen, a mysterious substance from Dimension X. Hamato is also affected by the mutagen, but is mutated into a rat due to his proximity to a rodent at the time of contact. Hamato, adopting the name “Splinter,” names the quartet of Turtles after his favorite artists and trains them in the art of ninjutsu, raising them as his sons.

Kevin Eastman and Kevin Laird created the heroes in a half-shell in 1984 with the release of a black and white comic.
