McFarlane Toys acquires license to produce DC action figures

The two companies have agreed to a three-year licensing deal.

McFarlane Toys and DC Comics announced today that they’re partnering to produce a line of 6″-12″ “ultra-posable actions figures,” accessories, and vehicles. McFarlane has been granted a three-year license to produce the figures and collectibles. The news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement from McFarlane that they will also be producing a line of Harry Potter action figures. Warner Bros. is the parent company for both DC and Harry Potter.

For fans of the toy industry the news will come as a bit of a surprise as it was announced in December that Spin Master was granted a license to produce action figures for DC. Reports tell us that Spin Master’s license will be directed towards producing figures more friendly towards mass market sales, while McFarlane will focus on higher-end collector’s items.

2019 will see the last of DC’s figures produced by Mattel, as they no longer hold the license for DC toys and collectibles. Mattel was the primary producer for DC for many years.

Fans can expect to start seeing figures out of McFarlane in 2020. You can view the full press release below.
