Batman Damned #3, the finale to DC’s first original Black Label book, written by Brian Azzarello with art by Lee Bermejo, has been pushed back from its initial March release date to later in May. According to a report from Comicbook.com, DC has cancelled all outstanding orders for the issue and re-solicited but not disclosed the reason for the delay.
This is following a delay for the second issue as well, given so that Bermejo could paint new scenes for the intensely graphic and detailed series following the “bat-dick” controversy that arose after the first issue’s release (which was subsequently censored in later printings itself).
Frank Miller and John Romita Jr.’s Superman: Year One, also a Black Label book, is due for release in September with projects from John Ridley, Scott Snyder, and Geoff Johns to follow. There’s no indication that any of these projects are cancelled or delayed as a result of Damned‘s release — and the Damned still has been commercially successful when it makes it to shelves — but DC seems to be struggling with a consistent schedule and tailoring of the content they originally pitched the Black Label imprint as being a home for, to say the very least.
