Star Wars Episode IX title revealed

This December, it’s The Rise of Skywalker.

The final Star Wars movie in the nine-episode Skywalker saga is named The Rise of Skywalker.

The news came at Star Wars Celebration Chicago during the Star Wars: Episode IX panel with JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy. In addition to revealing the official title, the movie’s first teaser trailer was also shown.

“This movie is about this new generation and what they’ve inherited — the light and the dark,” Abrams said during the panel.

The teaser shows Rey with an apparently reformed lightsaber, Kylo Ren reforging his helmet, and ends with the ominous laugh of Emperor Palpatine.

The Rise of Skywalker is slated to hit theaters December 20th, 2019. It is the first Star Wars movie since 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
