Disney brought the animated musical adventure story of Mulan to the big screens in 1998. Following Disney’s current trend of re-releasing their classics, director Niki Caro brings Mulan to life.
Mulan is based on the Chinese legendary hero Hua Mulan who becomes a warrior to save her family name and country. While Mulan’s family prepares her for marriage, she prepares for war. Concerned about her elderly father, a once great fighter, she takes his place in battle. Disguising herself as a man in her father’s army, she trains and fights to preserve her father’s legacy and family name.
The live action film stars stars Yifei Liu as the titular character, Jet Li as the Emperor, and Donnie Yen will play Commander Tung. The screenplay has been adapted from the epic poem “The Ballad of Mulan,” which narrates the story of the Chinese legend.
The film will be arriving in theaters in the spring of 2020.
