Hearthstone: Saviors of Uldum: Streamer Disguised Toast relinquishes card to Blizzard

Notable Hearthstone streamer has decided to abdicate his Saviors of Uldum card reveal.

Disguised Toast, real name Jeremy Wang, is a Canadian streamer who gained a considerable following devising infographics and YouTube videos for Hearthstone. He is a well-known name within the Hearthstone community and one that has been synonymous with the game throughout the years.

Over the past few months Toast’s interest and interaction with Hearthstone has fallen off — his streaming has instead centered around Riot Games’ Teamfight Tactics, a round-based autobattle game spawned from League of Legends. Notwithstanding, that didn’t stop Toast from getting a card reveal for Hearthstone‘s upcoming expansion, Saviors of Uldum. It’s easy to see why. Blizzard/Team 5 not taking advantage of Toast’s massive fan following — which includes 840,784 followers on Twitch; 820K+ followers on YouTube and over 200K Twitter followers would be unwise.

Early this morning however, Toast acknowledged he’d be “returning the card Blizzard sent me to reveal for the new Hearthstone expansion.” The streamer cited “personal feelings on HS and recent community reaction to me revealing a card” as the reasons for his decision.

The community reaction to which Toast is referring is likely a Reddit post which questioned the efficacy of his card reveal when he is primarily a TFT-oriented streamer now.

Why is Toast getting a card reveal? from hearthstone

Most of the Reddit Hearthstone community seemed to understand the reasoning behind Blizzard/Team 5’s decision to choose Toast. “You know why [they gave him the card reveal]?” explained Redditor Karsticles. “Because you could say ‘Toast’ and everyone here knows who you are talking about.”

“It’s a business decision,” said GengarsDad. “It’s not because they like toast better. He has better viewership. Views=exposure=more money. But yea it’s unfortunate because thijs definitely deserves over toast.”

Other Redditors criticized the decision as unfair to popular streamers who were more dedicated to Hearthstone, however. “You know what,” itsdelpi said. “Thijs and RDU didnt get card reveal. Both are popular player/streamer and dedicated to hearthstone. On the other hand, TFT streamer gets a card reveal LOL.”

The decision has been made, however, and Toast showed integrity by deciding to hand the card back to Blizzard and not use the reveal to milk more views for his streaming channels. Do you think Toast was right/scrupulous with the choice that he made? Let us know in the comments.

The Hearthstone Saviors of Uldum card reveals kick off on July 19th. You can check out the reveal schedule at the official Play Hearthstone website.
