The official Star Wars Twitter account unveiled a bittersweet new trailer for Star Wars: Resistance season two today, revealing an October 6 premiere while also announcing this season will be the last.

The final season will take place during the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi leading up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and carries a much darker tone than the first season as Kaz and his Resistance friends flee the First Order. The second, final season will feature appearances from familiar faces like Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, General Hux, Captain Phasma and even the Crimson Corsair while introducing a slew of new characters- including a brand new Hutt gangster.
While the show’s ending may be a disappointment to some, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Resistance had its fans, but the Star Wars in Poor Taste crew here at AiPT! felt generally underwhelmed with the show’s initial season that failed to reach the heights of its predecessors Rebels and The Clone Wars. With the December release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing an end to the Skywalker Saga, Resistance didn’t have much longevity, at least in a narrative sense, to begin with.
Additionally, the launch of Disney+ in November may play a role. Disney appears to be putting all of it’s kid orientated Star Wars (and Marvel) content onto the new streaming service, so fans of Resistance may get to see the show continue there. It happened to The Clone Wars, so why not Resistance?
