This is the 71st year for the Emmy’s and man, have times changed. The Emmy’s have been known for some pretty predictable winners in the past. in the most recent years Jim Parson reigned as king of the lead actor in a comedy series, but change has been coming for some time. The change from family friendly network television has begun to evolve. This year the Emmy’s made bold choices with their winners and the results are exciting.
Bill Hader won for his role in Barry. HBO’s comedy series about a hired assassin with a conscience has given Hader a vehicle to explore his varied acting range. The best lead actress in a drama series went to Jodie Comer for her role as Villanelle, a deadly assassin in Killing Eve.
In a surprise, but well deserved turn, Phoebe Waller-Bridge left with a number of victories under her belt. Waller-Bridge not only won an award for best writing in a comedy series for Amazon’s Fleabag, she also took home the award for best actress in a comedy series for Fleabag. And just as the night was wrapping up, Fleabag took home the award for best comedy series.
