Hasbro unveils brand new Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection figures

A slew of new figures spanning the entire Star Wars timeline was announced today.

Hasbro unveiled a slew of new figures for their Vintage Collection and Black Series toy lines at New York Comic Con, with characters and moments represented from throughout the Star Wars saga.

Hasbro’s NYCC panel- featuring Design Manager Sam Smith, Senior Brand Manager Patrick Schneider, and Senior Brand Manager Maria Sweeney- kicked off 45-minutes worth of reveals with new figures from the brand new Skywalker Saga Commemorative Collection.

Initial reveals of this collection showcased gold plated characters from the Original and Sequel Trilogies, but NYCC attendees were treated to an exclusive first look at the Prequel Trilogy characters in the collection. Darth Maul, Yoda, Jango Fett, Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Luke Skywalker all get the gold treatment this fall for the Skywalker Saga Commemorative Collection.

Additionally, collectors who purchase every figure from the Skywalker Saga Commemorative Collection will be able to piece together a beautiful collage that spans the entire Skywalker Saga

The Hasbro crew then moved on to The Vintage Collection, which is reveled by fans and collectors for its retro packaging reminiscent of the initial toy releases. For the first time ever, the Yavin Ceremony Princess Leia will be available in figure form as a part of the Vintage Collection, with Schenider remarking how challenging the package design was since Princess Leia is only shown in that outfit for a handful of frames. Joining Princess Leia for the Vintage Collection are the cutest desert scavengers around- Jawas.

Stormtroopers got a fair share of the spotlight for The Vintage Collection as well, particularly the new Sith Trooper from The Rise of Skywalker. The Sith Trooper will be available in The Vintage Collection in two forms, the base Sith Trooper and the Sith Trooper Armory Edition with additional accessories and weapons.

Fans of the extended universe, now known as Legends, will be excited to hear Hasbro announced the fearsome Shadow Troopers will make their way to the Vintage Collection as well. Schneider remarked that the design teams had a lot of fun finding a good image for the packaging since Shadow Troopers appeared primarily in the video games.

Rounding out the announcements for the Vintage Collection, Hasbro unveiled the awesome new Cave of Evil special three-pack, featuring Luke, Yoda and Darth Vader depicted as they were during Luke’s initial trip to Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back.

With all of the reveals from The Vintage Collection out of the way, Hasbro turned their attention to the collector favorite Black Series line- and they did not disappoint. After recapping their most recent announcements like the beautiful white packaging and carbonite editions, Hasbro rolled out the reveals.

First up, Hasbro unveiled the new Force Spirit Yoda for the intricately detailed Black Series line. The design team was really focused on making Yoda feel truly like an apparition under his jedi robes, according to Smith.

Keeping up with the trend of Original Trilogy characters getting the Black Series treatment, rabid collectors at NYCC erupted in applause when Hasbro unveiled the forthcoming Wedge Antilles figure. Schneider joked about how they didn’t want Wedge to win the recent fan-vote for a new figure since they already had this one in development.

Once again shifting attention to Stormtrooper variations, Hasbro appeased fans of both the prequel trilogy and the sequel trilogy with their next reveals- Clone Commander Fox and the First Order Jet Trooper.

Though they’ve only been seen briefly in the most recent The Rise of Skywalker trailers, the Jet Troopers are perfect for the Black Series. Their sleek white armor and intricately detailed armor are expertly adapted for these new figures.

In perhaps the most surprising reveal of the panel, Hasbro gave attendees a first look at their newest Black Series figure for the upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian– IG-11. IG-11 is, understandably, a modified version of Hasbro’s IG-88 mold.

Despite all these awesome new figures and toys, Hasbro still managed to save the best for last. Coming this fall, the Black Series will feature what Schneider called the definitive versions of Chewbacca and C-3PO- the escape from Bespin iterations from Empire Strikes Back.

As if the signature Black Series detail wasn’t enough to make these figures so rad, the set will also include a mesh net for Chewie to carry Threepio in. And, of course, C-3PO comes complete with detachable limbs, allowing collectors to stage the famous getaway scene from the fifth film.
