WWE Smackdown viewers drop 25% in second week on FOX

WWE lost a million viewers, but still held the best ratings on broadcast TV Friday night.

WWE Friday Night Smackdown’s second episode on the FOX was in Las Vegas, Nevada this week at the T-Mobile arena and the numbers from the night’s show are in. The number of viewers between the first week of Smackdown on FOX and the second week dropped, and boy did they drop a LOT.

How much is a lot? Well, 25% is how much. The second episode drew 2.899 million viewers according to ShowBuzz Daily. Which as noted, is down 25% from last week’s premiere episode that brought in 3.888 million viewers. That’s nearly one million less people watching WWE’s new flagship show that FOX paid the entertainment company a heck of a lot of money for.

A few positives here is that Smackdown still had the highest ratings for any show on broadcast television that night and they also won the 18-49 demographic by averaging a 0.95 rating over the two hours, with their closest competition being Hawaii Five-O (8-9 pm) and Blue Bloods (10-11 pm) with a 0.7 rating.

Monday’s RAW episode drew an average of 2.334 million viewers, down from last week’s 2.571 million viewers. A much smaller dip.

It’s worth noting that last week’s episode of Smackdown featured The Rock, who’s not only one of the most sought after movie stars in Hollywood, but also one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time. The Great One’s segment alone brought in over 4 million viewers. It will be interesting to see how WWE puts together next week’s show to. One things for certain, FOX executives can’t be particularly happy with WWE right now.
