With the second Guardians of the Galaxy film being released in just under a month’s time, all things GotG are hot, and rightfully so.
Longtime fans and those new to the GotG realm alike are enjoying the extra attention that the world is paying Star-Lord and company; seeing as everyone is looking forward to this flick, I think that now is the perfect time to get caught up, because come May 5th, it’ll be too late. And frankly, to really enjoy the film, you’re going to have to go into the theater with an idea of what’s what and who’s who. But regardless of what I think you should do prior to seeing the new Guardians of the Galaxy film, you’re reading this article to find out whether or not the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude is worth buying, right?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude (Marvel Comics)
So, how does the publisher describe this collection?
Brace yourself for 2017’s most cosmic movie with an awesome mix of stories new and old, hand-picked to whet the appetite for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! The comic-book adaptation of the first blockbuster will get you hooked on that Guardians feeling as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot are thrown together for the first time for a royal rumble with Ronan! Then, new players enter the game in an infinitely entertaining prelude that sets the stage for the ragtag team’s next adventure. Plus: Enjoy a classic pivotal chapter in the life of the enigmatic Mantis -the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next superstar-in-waiting! And more!”
The short answer to the question of whether or not the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude is worth reading, is yes. I say this because this short collection appeals to both the long-time GotG fans as well as to those who may not have heard of the gang prior to their inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While I wasn’t too fond of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude issues #1 and #2, they have their place in this collection. Surely, these two issues will appeal much more to those new to the GotG, for long-time fans…I don’t know, but Giant-Size Avengers #4, Guardians of the Galaxy (1990) #1, and Guardians Team-Up #1-2 are certainly worth a look.
Again, now really is the best time to get caught up on the GotG, and thankfully, Marvel has released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude collection, which will do just that. This collection isn’t a must-read per se, but if you’re thinking of getting it, I say get it.
