The last issue ended with Harley Quinn being abducted by Amanda Waller to join her Suicide Squad. While Waller was explaining her situation, Harley Quinn explained that she now works with Batman and he would be in at any moment to save her. Then appears a man who could only assume is impersonating Batman. Doctor Fate also appeared at Oliver Queen’s house to discuss a potential mission and revealed he needed help from both Black Canary and Green Arrow.
Injustice 2 issue #2 from start to finish is filled with nonstop action, heart stopping moments and some bonus heart warming moments that will exceed fans’ expectations. The last issue was a very tough one to follow but Tom Taylor came back with a huge bang in this epic issue. The writing once again is almost flawless. It’s hard to dissect this issue and find any real problems with it. It gives the readers everything they want in a comic book: action, intrigue, spot-on characterization and great art to name a few. The issue is illustrated beautifully by Bruno Redondo and is easily recognizable. Fitting in all those characters and action sequences on one page works insanely well and not once does it seem like there’s too much going on at once.
Seeing old stories from the first Injustice series come together full circle is another great thing about this issue. Green Arrow and Black Canary share an excellent scene together that is crucial to this particular story that will carry on further to impact the Injustice 2 story. Seeing these two together and joining Batman is such a delightful thing because it’s nice to see another non meta human joining the bigger fight. In the first Injustice Green Arrow had been murdered by Superman which makes sense that he would be one of the first to go because how could he defend himself against Big Blue? This time around, however, it’ll be interesting to see how this Green Arrow does in the same universe where his counterpart had died.
Another interesting character is this mysterious man dressed as and claiming to be Batman. He shows up and basically says that the Suicide Squad now work for him. It would actually be really exciting to see someone else control the Suicide Squad who isn’t Amanda Waller. The only problem is that this seemingly evil Batman is a lot harder on the Squad than Waller was. There’s a great comedic part of this issue that involves Calendar Man that’s so enjoyable it would be a shame if that don’t keep him around. He seems like the perfect villain to keep around as the more comedic villain that gets in the way or maybe takes it a different route.
