John Cena lands lead role in ‘Transformers’ spinoff ‘Bumblebee’

Is it still more than meets the eye if you can’t see him?

John Cena is joining the cast of the upcoming Bumblebee movie, a spinoff of the Transformers franchise, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Cena joins some other names on the Bumblebee cast: Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. It’s unknown what role The Face Who Runs the Place in WWE will be playing, though Hollywood Reporter says it is a lead role. Bumblebee is set to be a prequel to the Michael Bay universe of Transformers films, taking place in 1987 and centering around the titular Transformer.

While John Cena may be the most recognizable name in pro wrestling since The Rock, he has recently followed the footsteps of the People’s Champion to Hollywood, where he’s had acclaimed roles in films like Trainwreck, Sisters and others. This role begs the question, however: Is it still more than meets the eye if you can’t see him?

Bumblebee is set to premiere December 21, 2018.
