‘Dark Nights: Metal’ #5: We never knew how much we wanted green-fire-breathing Joker dragons until now

Dark Nights: Metal #5 features dragons that would make the ones in Game of Thrones crap their scales.

Although we already knew Joker Dragons were a thing thanks to our sneak peek at the Dark Nights: Metal #6 cover, we never knew they could actually breathe green fire. But thanks to this teaser image from Dark Nights: Metal #5, courtesy of Scott Snyder’s Twitter page, we know they can. And I’m as pumped as I was all those years ago, a little boy with both eyes still intact, leaping up from his couch-cushion and cheering at the sight of Godzilla’s atomic breath for the first time.

The page also features Barbatos atop a golden spire (the cosmic tuning fork Batman put beneath Superman’s Fortress of Solitude), chains of purple lightning crackling all about his hunched form as he peers down at the Batman Who Laughs.

From the official DC synopsis:

The Justice League faces the final extinguishing of our world, invaded on all sides by unimaginable nightmares, fueled on to the edge of oblivion only by the belief that there must be a light in the endless darkness–somewhere. But…what if there’s not?

The question remains: How does a green-fire-breathing Joker dragon go from swirling about Barbatos’ head to being commandeered and ridden into battle by a plate-armored Batman/Aemon Targaryen amalgam? Dark Nights: Metal #5 hits stores on January 31st, 2018.
